By the time summer rolls around again, many air conditioners are, well, a little rusty even in optimal conditions. Air conditioning maintenance plans are the best solution for avoiding emergency service. Regular TLC means your system will be running at peak performance providing the best indoor comfort. Our professional technicians provide excellent service for cooling systems at a fair price. We'll even throw in a few tips like how often to change dirty filters and avoid a clogged filter problem.
With annual home air conditioning service we look at every part of the unit with emphasis on those things which our experienced professionals have found to be most vulnerable to damage or degradation. Chief among these are the cooling fins that help dissipate the large amount of heat accumulated in the air conditioning process. In many cases HVAC service goes hand in hand when we work on an AC system.
If the cooling fins become bent or closed, (as in a hailstorm) clogged with leaves, dirt and debris (as in a wind storm), unit efficiency will be severely degraded-- which means it will have to run longer and harder in order to produce the same amount of cooling. In fact, a clogged unit may not be capable of producing a decent level of performance no matter how long it runs.
Adequate airflow is one of the most necessary parts of the servicing process. High efficiency systems such as a heat pump need regular maintenance to remain energy efficient with reduced energy consumption. The value of regular heat pump maintenance can't be understated. It is your main line of defense against emergency air conditioning service needs. But if ever there is a problem, we provide 24 hour air conditioning repair.
Air conditioners are devices that rely on a number of subsystems operating in harmony in order for them to perform their task. Because the cost of ac repair can be steep, the small amount spent in annual air conditioning service is a good investment.
Air conditioners have a big job to do, and they do it under extreme conditions. When it's hot outside, your air conditioner works hard so you can sit back and relax in cooled air.
Providing your A/C system with the regular care it requires will undoubtedly save time, money, and aggravation in the long run. Regular maintenance from our air conditioning service company will prolong the need for early replacement.
It is not always hot weather that creates the need for ac service, remember the main unit stays outside all year, even in the winter. During that time, air conditioners are turned off. In this state of stasis they can't shake off the persistent effects of weather eating away at their moving parts and electrical contacts.
Another critical item on our checklist involves testing the compressor and its associated refrigerant charge. If the amount of refrigerant has fallen below advised levels, the current unit will run hot-- which in turn stresses the compressor that moves it through the system. When this situation becomes problematic your ac unit can break down unexpectedly. Premature air conditioner installation or replacement is something you want to avoid if at all possible. We recommend setting up a regular maintenance schedule with us to help avoid unnecessary repairs.
A shortfall in refrigerant often means there is a minor leak somewhere in the system. This will have to be found and sealed. Likewise, a slowly-expiring compressor operates at very low efficiency and poses a threat of fire. Running an amperage test to see if either the compressor or condenser motor is drawing a larger than expected amount of electricity to power the system is an important part of the process.
We recommend an annual heating and air conditioning service to cover all bases while we're there. Call any time to set up an appointment and we'll have someone over at your earliest convenience. As leading HVAC contractors we specialize in HVAC repair, service and air conditioning installation services. If you feel it's time to replace the old unit, call us to discuss your options. You'll want to make sure the unit you have installed is the right fit for your needs.
Air conditioning (also A/C, air conditioner) is the process of removing heat and controlling the humidity (as well as removing dust in some cases) of the air within a building or vehicle, in order to achieve a more comfortable interior environment. This may be achieved using powered devices ('air conditioners'), by passive cooling or by ventilative cooling. Air conditioning is a member of a family of systems and techniques that provide heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
Air conditioners, which typically use vapor-compression refrigeration, range in size from small units used within vehicles to massive units that can cool an entire building. Air source heat pumps, which can be used for heating as well as cooling are becoming increasingly common in cooler climates.
According to the IEA, as of 2018, 1.6 billion air conditioning unit were installed which accounted for an estimated 20% of energy usage in buildings globally with the number expected to grow to 5.6 billion by 2050. The United Nations called for the technology to be made more sustainable to mitigate climate change using techniques including passive cooling, evaporative cooling, selective shading, windcatchers and better thermal insulation. Split-system central air conditioners consist of two heat exchangers, an outside unit (the condenser) from which heat is rejected to the environment and an internal heat exchanger (the fan coil unit or evaporator in an air handler) with the piped refrigerant being circulated between the two. The evaporator is then connected to the spaces to be cooled by ventilation ducts.
Large central cooling plants may use intermediate fluid such as chilled water pumped into air handlers or fan/coil units near or in the spaces to be cooled which then duct or deliver cold air into the spaces to be conditioned, rather than ducting cold air directly to these spaces from the plant, which is not done due to the low density and thermal capacity of air which would require impractically large ducts. The chilled water is cooled by chillers in the plant, which use a refrigeration cycle to cool water, often transferring its heat to the atmosphere even in water-cooled chillers through the use of cooling towers. Chillers may be air or water-cooled.
Ductless systems (or mini-split) systems typically supply conditioned and heated air to a single or a few rooms of a building, without ducts and in a decentralized manner. Multi-zone or multi-split systems are a common application of ductless systems and allow up to 8 rooms (zones or locations) to be conditioned independently from each other, each with its own indoor unit and simultaneously from a single outdoor unit. The main problem with multi-split systems is the length of the refrigerant lines for connecting the external unit to the internal ones.
The first mini-split systems were sold in 1954-1968 by Mitsubishi Electric and Toshiba in Japan, where its development was motivated by the small size of homes. Multi-zone ductless systems were invented by Daikin in 1973 and VRF systems (which can be thought of as larger multi-split systems) were also invented by Daikin in 1982. Both were first sold in Japan.
Central air conditioners can be either a stand alone system, or as in most cases a split system where existing air ducts from a furnace are also used to deliver cooled air from the air conditioning unit.
These air conditioners are one of the most popular installations today, because they can be integrated into an existing central heating furnace. It uses the air duct system to deliver cool air on hot days and warm air on cold days. Once installed, maintenance is included when the furnace is being worked on.
The Packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC), through-the-wall, and window air conditioners are similar. PTAC heating systems may be adapted to provide heat in cold weather, either directly by using an electric strip, gas, or other heaters, or by reversing the refrigerant flow to heat the interior and draw heat from the exterior air, converting the air conditioner into a heat pump. They may be installed in a wall opening with the help of a special sleeve on the wall and a custom grill that is flush with the wall and window air conditioners can also be installed in a window, but without a custom grill.
Packaged air conditioners (also known as self-contained units) are central systems that integrate into a single housing all the components of a split central system, and deliver air, possibly through ducts, to the spaces to be cooled. Depending on their construction they may be outdoors or indoors, on roofs (rooftop units), draw the air to be conditioned from inside or outside a building and be water, refrigerant or air-cooled. Often, outdoor units are air-cooled while indoor units are water-cooled using a cooling tower.
No matter the type of configuration you would like to install or require maintenance for, we are the right people to call for your air conditioning needs. Customer satisfaction and your peace of mind is our top priority.
